Sauropod Studio is a three man team based in Montréal, Canada. Established recently after the two founders graduated from game design studies in 2010, the studio hopes to gain a foothold in the world of indie game development and release their first game, Castle Story. We strive to create unique games and explore genres that have never been done before. Using a good understanding of both computer and tabletop game design, programming know-how and a solid dose of imagination, we believe we can create games that look and feel unique.
The name Sauropod Studio came to be during the first year of development, when we realized that we shared a childhood love for dinosaurs that survived to adulthood. While games may be part of our jobs now, we’re really just a bunch of dudes who decided to take their geeky passions one step further.
After learning that his brother was founding a video game studio, Benoît decided to put his PHD in computer science on hold and help make Castle Story a reality. Fun fact: Benoît holds the world record speedrun for Final Fantasy 1.
Although he is a skilled programmer, François is a game designer at heart. He grew up creating role-playing games for his friends and kept making them until he learned that he could make a living out of doing that.
Game designer and artist for Castle Story, Germain started learning 3d animation at an early age. Long time friends with Franˆois, he’s been creating video games ever since and considers games to be one of the most challenging artforms.
Thierry (aka. Menekis) is our almighty webmaster and community manager. A close friend, he’s our go-to guy whenever we need help for anything web related, or even life-advice in general. He’s THAT awesome.
FX is our audio ninja. The pun is almost impossible to avoid: he handles most of the SFX in Castle Story. For months he had been hounding us with his irresistible smile and geeky good looks, always reminding us how we were lacking in the audio department. That is, until we buckled and simply said “OK you win! Let’s meet Monday.”.
Despite what the picture above seems to imply, Paolo does indeed live in our current full-color era (although I suspect he owns a smoking pipe for real). He is Sauropod’s network code samurai and works on the multiplayer version of Castle Story.
François’ wife, Julie is also our number one supporter. Whenever we need advice from a casual gamer’s perpective, she’s right there to tell us what she thinks. She’s the D’Artagnan to our Three Musketeers.
