Bit of a short one this week, as I’m preparing to sleep and then drive for 14 hours or so. We’ve got info about PAX, our upcoming move, the tutorial with a video, and an update on the testers. Let’s dive right in, and hope my mind, addled as it is with sleep deprivation right now, will hold out. Also thanks to General_Info for the banner this week. you can see how he made his bridge on the community forum
Preps for PAX and moving
So, a lot of stuff has been going on behind the scenes lately. We’ve been preparing ourselves for PAX East next week, and almost everything is ready to go. Hopefully everything should go smoothly. If you’re planning on going to PAX East this year, you should stop by the booth and say hello! This will be my (Box) first trip to PAX, or any major con for that matter, so I’m very much looking forward to meeting some of our fans in person.
Once PAX is over and done with, we will be moving almost immediately into our new studio. Everything has been very carefully planned out here, so the move should be very swift and completed by the end of April. Let’s just hope they managed to properly install our internet this time around!
We can finally show you guys a bit more of the work we’ve been doing on the Tutorial we’ve been putting together. The work on the tutorial opens up the door to scripted events, and that will let us eventually add things like quests, events, storyline, that sort of stuff. Another need for the tutorial was to easily show and explain the controls to a new player. We had to create a dialog system that would allow us to show text and images to the player as they interact with the world. That way, it will be incredibly easy for us to lay out the steps that a player would need to go through to accomplish the next goal in the tutorial. This feature will be reused along with scripted events for campaigns and stories as we move ahead.
The time to send in your applications for the testing group has come to a close. We received a ton of applications, and we truly appreciate that so many of you guys wanted to be involved. Unfortunately, we had to limit the number of people that would have access to the testing branch so that we can test in a focused and agile manner. We will keep the applications from everyone that applied, and whenever we’re ready to grow the ranks a little more, we’ll reach out to some more of you to invite you into the testing.
Bug of the week
And it goes boom!
Soundtrack of the Week
I stumbled upon this while bored out of my mind about a week ago, just browsing aimlessly around the internet. Well, more accurately, I stumbled upon a little flash game that used a song by this artist, who I then researched and spent the rest of the week listening to. I present you, Mixtape 3, by Du Tonic! It’s not a selection of songs, more a single, very long mix. It also happens to be available as a free download on his Soundcloud page! Swing on by and support this talented man!
And, as always, thanks for reading!
