22Howdy, Internets!
It’s friday! The week’s over! Time to get wasted and act like idiots!
*Ahem*…
But before we do this, we need to keep you up to date on what’s been going on over here. Here’s a list:
- Finished the LOD system. It’s completely functional now! It took a while, but the performance gain is already worth it, and will be even more when we scale the world up. This means bigger worlds, more trees, and possibly other things scattered around.
- Added the option of making phantom special objects. Stockpiles, doors, stairs and arches are now displayed accurately when being placed by the player, and important first step to making the game more user friendly.
- Created the first part of the combat system. It’s still pretty early, and the animations are a pretty wonky, but the characters can now spot and chase each other if they are in opposing teams. They can’t deal any damage yet, but this is coming soon.
- Created a radial menu to speed up construction and to give orders to the Bricktrons. We lovingly call it a pie menu, because rhubarb raspberry pie is yummy, and the mighty PI allowed us to create it.

Big news! We signed up two master indie music guys to help us with the soundtrack! They’re definitely awesome guys and we have complete trust in them that they’ll create something special and awesome. I personally can’t wait to hear what they’ll make.

Soundtrack of the week
It’s been super warm and sunny this week. Spring is here! Fuck yeah, I already feel like summer’s coming. But you know, living in Canada, the third coldest country in the world right behind Russia and Pluto, means that cold weather will probably come back really soon.
With that in mind, we want to keep summer in our living room for a bit longer. This is why the legendary Black Seeds is our soundtrack of the week! Not only are their funky beats really appropriate, but when you think about it, it’s summer in New Zealand right now! Cheers to our kiwi friends (if we have any) for creating such an awesome band. Please mail us some sunshine if you can!
Live Chat session next friday
Before we go, we want to announce that we’ll be hosting a live chat session next friday on the Castle Story Online community forums. Just go to the IRC chat page and login as a guest. We plan on doing this at 8pm, but it might change. Stay tuned for more announcements on this subject on facebook or twitter.
Anyway, we hope the transition from sunday to friday wasn’t too long.

Lovely diary entry. And I’m glad you put the pictures up for us dirty non-dev peasants to use as wallpaper while we wait for the game. Also, nice that you guys already have someone competent people to work on the music: it’s an important part in creating the “feel” of the game.

Looks awesome so far, glad you got guys to work on an awesome soundtrack! Also why does it say live chat session next Wednesday when it says next Friday below it as well? Which one is it? And 8 pm in what timezone?

You’re making great progress!
I’m just wondering if you already have a loadingscreen?
If not I’d suggest the Evolution wallpaper, at the start there’s only a rock and when it’s finished loading the Bricktron appears.

I was so hopping to do the soundtrack of this game but I guess its better to get someone that has experience in the field, Games looking great so far

Just a note, if someone can resize the wallpaper ( the evolution one to be more exact ) to some other sizes ( like 1280 x 1024 ) that would be the best ! ! !
I’ll try to do it myself but I’m terrible at it :c please…
