This was our last week before the big Steam Early Access release and it was a very busy week. Things went up and down but we are very confident with the release next Monday. Sure it will be broken, sure it will be messy, but it will be released and it will be fun!
But we still want to warn everyone, this version is still a baby that needs to mature. You could be able to play one hour straight without crash but it could also be 20 minutes. There is a lot of bugs that need to be fixed and we will continue to patch some of them during the weekend. After the release, new feature development might slow down for one or two weeks because we will need to focus a bit on the bugs that will get reported by every players. Your help will be greatly appreciated and will also saves us a lot of testing time. Once that is done, we will go back to developing features, integrating a few major gameplay mechanics that didn’t make the cut for this release.
We already made internal testing sessions with some of the players and they liked the new survival gameplay that we added and already gave us pretty good feedback about some other new features we implemented. The multiplayer on the other hand is still pretty unstable, but has come very far in the last week or so. We expect we’ll be able to patch it up in the immediate future.
Here’s how it goes:
We will have our early access release monday. You will be able to buy it from our website and the Steam frontpage. Anybody who either backed our Kickstarter or Pre-Ordered the game through Humble Store will automatically get the update through Steam. That or re-download on Humble Store. More on that further down.
Please note that there is a lot of missing or unfinished content as well as some recently locked-out content. For example, we disabled the world editor until we have phased out the old saving method. This will ensure all of you old save files will still be compatible.
Example of things that are available:
Slightly Broken Survival mode
Really broken Arena mode
The classic Sandbox mode
Example of things that aren’t available (yet)
Very elaborate class system
Magical flying unicorns (Not!)
About Humble Bundle Pre-Orders
Have you pre-ordred the game on http://castlestory.net with the humble bundle widget? You want to get access to the Steam Early Access? No worries, you will get your steam keys from HumbleBundle and also gain access to the latest build. We will also upload a DRM free version on Humble Bundle for you.
FINALLY! We finally found a solution for both ground and international shipping. No need to say that it was a messy and shipping from Canada is a complete pain. We have the new and last labels in our hands, just need to call them next week so they could start the delivery. It shouldn’t take too long (if it could possibly be more than now…) before you’ll get your shirts and posters. We should definitely write a blog just about how complicated it is to send a mass amount of package at the same time from here…
Bug of the week
Our new animator had a rather funny import bug yesterday when messing around with the new Bricktron rig. The result is both scary and mesmerizing…
Friend of the week & Soundtrack of the week
A long time ago someone made a beautiful story about one of our Bricktron. He called him Mobe and did this superb video:
You know what? He’s also a musician and just recorded a new disc called Replicator’s Tide. Here’s to you, Owen Dennis
