I’m currently on a sailboat, writing this blog. It’s the thanksgiving holiday weekend here in Canada, so me, François and his wife decided to go sailing with my dad on the St-Lawrence river.
(At the time I was writing this, we didn’t have access to wifi, it took us until late Sunday to upload the blog)
The weather’s not on our side though, you can see us freezing our asses in the cabin:
On another note, we’ve been so busy this week that I didn’t find time to write the blog on Friday, hence the late weekend blog. But anyway, here’s what we did this week:
Averted an unexpected crisis: Some dude in Italy decided it would be a good idea to copy-paste our entire Kickstarter page along with links and images, on another fundraising platform called Indiegogo. Thanks to our excellent community, and a quick response by the Indiegogo people. The page was quickly shut down, and no damage was done. Hurray!
Overhauled our in-game work group system. Along with several new UI features, it is now much easier to transfer Bricktrons to different tasks by assigning them to different groups. We have also added a “lumberjack” group type that works the same way as the miners and builders.
Started randomly adding crystals in the ground. This means that there is now a reason to dig undergound other than to gather rock. The crystals will act as the in-game currency until we overhaul the design.
Worked really hard on our serial/token generation system for the distribution of the prototype. This system is key for the game to be able to recognize our backers and greet them appropriately.
Is the prototype really coming out on the 17th?
Yes. We said at the end of the month of August that we wanted to release our prototype just in time to submit our game to IGF (the indie game festival). This is still going to happen. As things are going, we will probably have finished what we wanted to do for the prototype by that date (quite soon actually ;D ).
However we decided not to apply to the IGF. We feel that the game doesn’t quite live up to its potential. Since we’re very satisfied with the success of our Kickstarter, we’re not greedy enough to seek further praise. We’d rather work on the game.
So, since the game will be releasable by the 17th, the only foreseeable obstacle to a release will be with our distribution partners (where our files will be hosted and the keys will be sent from). We have no control over this part. Let’s pray that everything will be ready on time.
By the way if there are any changes you need to do to your account: change your username, email addresses, etc. Please do them before the 17th. It will be harder for us to change them afterwards.
Anyway that’s all for now. We will now continue on our adventures!
Danger ahead! Quick, look worried!
“Here we are, born to be kings,
We’re the princes of the universe!”
Soundtrack of the week
I’d like to bring to your attention the absolutely awesome soundtrack of Sword & Sworcery. If you haven’t tried the game or listened to this album. GO NOW!
See you next week!
