Contact us!
62We’ve spent the week getting back on our feet, after a pretty eventful weekend. Bascially, sending emails to dozens of people, answering hundreds upon hundreds of email, and deciding what we should do in the near future.
Speaking of which, we would like to take some time to answer a number of recurrent questions that have been popping in our inbox in large numbers.
Unfortunately, we have no control over the way Kickstarter works. We’ve spent the last 4 months going through the complicated steps require to sign up for a Kickstarter, so we know what it feels like to deal with Amazon Payments.
But do not despair! We are currently working on a system that would allow people to donate via a widget on our own website! It’s pretty complicated to set up, especially if we want to distribute rewards similar to what we offer on Kickstarter, so don’t expect it to be online soon. But within a week, hopefully, everything should be ready to go.
If everything goes well, the widget should be super easy to use, allowing you to donate via Paypal and/or a large number of payment options!
You’re absolutely right! We’ve decided there should be more reward options. So we’re now introducing 3 new reward tiers:
$30 – Get TWO COPIES OF THE BETA as well as two names in the game (yours and a second one of your choice)
This one is pretty self explanatory. For those of you who want to offer a copy of the game to a friend or significant other, this reward is for you!
$45 – Get TWO COPIES OF THE PROTOTYPE as well as TWO COPIES OF THE BETA. You also get two names in the game (yours and a second one of your choice)
Same principle as #1, but you get two copies of the prototype as well. Note that the prototype will NOT have multiplayer, so this reward tier isn’t meant to be a “team” pack.
$80 – Get one T-SHIRT of your choice, one POSTER of your choice as well as the PROTOTYPE, the BETA and your name in the game.
Finally! You can now get a t-shirt of your choice as well as one of the two posters! More choice is better right?
Regarding the other reward tiers, we’ve been getting a lot of comments about how badly formulated they are. Kickstarter does not allow rewards to be modified after launch, so there isn’t much we can do. This brings me to the next question:
Dear god no! If you donated 15$ or more, you own the game when it comes out! We use the term Beta to say that you will be getting the game early, and we use the term pre-release price because once the game releases, it will likely cost more than 15$ for people who haven’t contributed to our Kickstarter.
As for the Prototype, remember that this is a limited demo version we will be sending out exclusively to our 25$-and-up Kickstarter backers. Once the Beta releases, there won’t be a point to keep the prototype because the Beta will likely be bigger and better in every way possible.
Ok, let me be frank, we’re stuck with the reward descriptions we’ve written. We wrote August because technically, the Kickstarter ends on the 26th. But in all likelihood, it won’t be ready until September.
The huge size of our Kickstarter is putting significant strain on our small team. We’ve been getting so many email and requests, that we are having a hard time working on the actual game these days. We’re at 400% and will probably reach 500% by the end of the month, so this means that we are required to put 400% as much effort managing everything than we originally planned for and that will probably last until the very end of the Kickstarter. So as close as we are to releasing the prototype, the Kickstarter is also slowing us down considerably.
Our milestone (accounting for all possible delays) is to release something in time for the IGF submissions which is on October 17th. Ideally we would still release somethings earlier than that, but if anything happens, you are guaranteed some kind of release by that time.
This is a tricky question. What are stretch goals anyway? Some kind of scheme to motivate more people to donate?
I don’t really like the concept of promising more features on a whim. We’ve been working on that game for the last two years of our lives, often on the verge of starving, and constantly depending on parents and friends to support us. This game is our baby, we took many risks for it and we will push it as far as we can.
I don’t think there’s any feature we could promise that we don’t want to do already. We’re a small team, exploring a game idea that has never been tried before, so we will get as far as we humanly can.
There’s also the fact that the game is in the middle of development (opposed to a game that hasn’t been started yet), so the concept of adding features that late in development is really strange.
Anyway, I think it would be dishonest to hold back features we already wanted to do, in order to get more people to pledge. This is why we don’t have stretch goals, to us it feels just like day 1 DLC, and we don’t like that.
[edit] However, I would like to add that we still plan on hiring our community manager, musicians, artists, accountants and a lot of people who can help us develop the game more easily so we can deliver a game that is, simply put, better.
That’s it for now. This update is getting pretty long anyway. We’ll get back to you next week with some videos and some more pictures, so stay tuned!
Before we go, we’ve just updated the third t-shirt design, as well as creating a wallpaper for it.
Remember! Don’t dig too deep!
Several other kickstrater projects have used and recommended http://www.ukash.com for the creditcardless.

Don’t tell me the timestamp is correct and it is 4 am as of the posting…
Yes, I’m leaving for the weekend and I wanted to post this before I left. We work really hard and really late, I know…
Well hopefully you can get some sleep, and enjoy your weekend. The night seems to be a haven for programmers.
Do you want any ideas. Because ive got loads of great ideas for this that you can have. and When i grow up I want to be a games designer so if i work And give ideas. It will give me lots of experience so Just contact me And you have me as a free worker :) And if you need drawings and concept design Im the man for you many thanks Nathan rose.
Hey man, a LOT of people have ideas and feedback for this game, so it’s not very realistic that they would specifically ask YOU for ideas, when there are hundreds of fans who do. The programmers also have their own ideas that they want to accomplish. Just above, they said “I dont think theres any feature we could promise that we dont want to do already. ”
But if you still really want to get some ideas to them, post on the forum! There is a “suggestions” section that I’m sure they check every once in a while, so I think that would be your best bet.
exactly, post in the suggestion section, I do read them maybe once or twice a week and keep them in mind for when we will be ready to implement some more gameplay :)
I am only 13 but I promise this will be worth it And i will send some of my Castle story drawings to you . I’m obsessed with the whole construction and castle ideas so I have a huge list of Creative and plausible ideas :)
You say “hopefully Castle Story will work on Linux too”. Is there any alternate if a linux user pledges and you won’t release a linux version.
Unity promised Linux for Unity4. So we have good reasons to think that it will work.
However, unless we see our game running on Linux before our eyes, we can’t be 100% certain.
We have not stated anywhere that a Linux release is a certainty, but if someone finds himself in such a position where he can’t even emulate the game, we would do our best to make up for it somehow.
They are using Unity, which doesn’t currently support linux. However, When Unity 4 comes out, that should support linux. So when Unity has linux support, I assume the developers would release a linux version.
Just one quick question!
Will the T-Shirts and Posters be able for purchase after the kickstarter?
I have pledged 55$ and plan on doing 80 because I wanted a T-Shirt and 2 posters..
But for that reward I only get one poster and T-Shirt, so I hoped I could by the other poster later on..
Keep up the good work team sauropod!
Oh dear Sauropod. We know you do what you can, so please don’t work 400% Harder. You can always update the game, right?.. Then relax a bit. Iv’e seen the videos, and that is already by far the best game I’ve seen in many years.
Yes, we donated because we wanted a good game. And we know that you will make it. We don’t want to give you a heart attack :P
As for the people who asks for a lot, let them wait. You need updates for a reason, right :) ?
- I hope you make more games after Castle Story is 100% complete. I believe that you got ideas for games that people haven’t seen before.
oh yea, and my actual question: I pledged $25 for the prototype and Beta. However, you now got an option to get two copies. Do I need to pay $25 again for my friend to play?.. I would love to save those $5 :P
You can update the amount you pledge if you want to. I didnt try it yetm but as you pledge, it states that you can change it at any moment before the project is founded (26 august).
What i read is the delay of the prototype due to the succes of kickstarter. So the prototype and beta are set back 2 months? So the prototype releases in october and the beta in nobember?
I really like what you’re doing.
Regarding Linux support, I really hope you will develop game in Unity4 – if this is possible at the moment – or at least count on it heavily. They will for sure have Linux support – http://video.unity3d.com/video/6481739 + bit.ly/NhuyW1
Another thing that I think would be awesome cool if you do: http://kickingitforward.org/ – great way to keep it indie games world goes around. ;)
Cheers!
Yeah, would be nice if more games come with built-in Linux readyness ^^.
I have a question the second reward tier on the kickstarter the one for $25 Does it only give the prototype? and when the beta comes out will i get it too? I dont understant it :( Does it give Prototype and beta version Or only prototype?
CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN I want to pledge but i dont know how much I must pledge.
You get it all: prototype, beta and full game!
I don’t care when the prototype or beta come out. I don’t want you guy to rush this the game looks amazing already just keep doing what you are doing already and I’m sure you will have a contender for game of the year.
Please don’t listen to all these people just wanting their stuff *right now* and save yourselves to continue finishing this amazing and awesome game.
Please don’t stay up too late. Just take your time. Don’t answer emails that aren’t pertinent or important (and no, you asking about *your* reward isn’t important – there is 23 days to go).
Just do a weekly update blog, like this, and let all those emails just pass on by. The vast majority of the people who’ve backed you just want you to finish and polish this amazing game. Don’t worry about the rest.
Well, I’m gonna be as level-headed as I can, but:
I’m not expecting anything “right now”. But, I was convinced that the prototype is already fully operational, with only minor bugfixes to be made throughout August and the people who wanted to test it would get it as soon as the Kickstarter ends. Okay, I understand that hostile AI isn’t necessarily implemented yet, no problem, it can wait. What I want to see (and play with) is the core mechanic of building things and maybe blowing them up too.
please send us back, we receive tons of email, maybe it was lost in the process, very sorry about it!
Question: If I bump up my donation on Kickstarter from $25 to $30, will I still get One access to the Prototype as well as the Two Betas in the new $30 tier? I had already bumped it up from $15 to $25 so that I could have access to the Prototype and I would love to pay another $5 to let my brother have access to the beta once it comes out.
No I think you’ll have to play separately.
Sorry I meant pay it.will come up to $40
Will the T-shirts be available to buy after the Kickstarter? :D I’d love to get them all eventually, but I don’t really have the money right now. :B
Hello,
as far as I can see from this blog post, is that, the users who have pledged $55 will this:
$45 Get TWO COPIES OF THE PROTOTYPE as well as TWO COPIES OF THE BETA. You also get two names in the game (yours and a second one of your choice)
Same principle as #1, but you get two copies of the prototype as well. Note that the prototype will NOT have multiplayer, so this reward tier isnt meant to be a team pack.
and the stuff from the $55 option. Is that right?
If you can make the prototype better, please do so. Don’t stress yourself. As many others, I would like to play it now! But if its too buggy, I will be a bad user experience.
Thanks for the projekt and good luck for the future!
Carsten
Why don’t you guys hire someone to start the multiplayer networking environment of your game?
And call the multiplayer server SauroServer.
Well, they COULD buy a server for multiplayer right now, yet there are two main problems:
1: As far as I know, they are working from home at the moment. A server that runs 24/7 requires a lot of power, network and it creates heat. You don’t want a server to run 24/7 several months before the multiplayer (Only supported in Beta) is probably working.
2: They are still running the kickstarter. The prototype (Not supporting multiplayer) will be launched shortly after, and the beta (Multiplayer) will be released months after.
NOTE:
My English is poor (Sorry). Is you mean that they could “rent a server” for hosting, then that would be a bad choice if it’s your own game. A hosting company might close (Trust me, the business is hard!), and this would make an effect on the whole multiplayer-system across computers.
Conclusion:
Sauropod is currently making the best choice they can, so far I am concerned :)
in fact we will work on the multiplayer aspect when the game is a little bit more solid, there is no use of programming a multiplayer server if we have to rebuild it again and again. We will need to make experiment with the engine to to see what is possible to do with.
Will we be able to make videos of our beta and/or prototype gameplay (walkthroughs) etc.
Keep up the great work, guys. This is looking amazing and I cannot wait to see how it is going to turn out. Thanks for clearing up any confusion with the new tier system. \(^_^)/
Focus on your baby! That’s what your being supported to do! Let our help BE a help, so hire someone to do rewards.
peace,
DS
Fantastic progress once again! I was one of the many people that did not have a creditcard and as such could not directly donate. I had to find a friend to bail me out. With that widget update on the site allowing paypal in the future, I might consider donating even more despite already being a future-plushie owner! I absolutely find it both refreshing and fantastic that you listen/respond to so many emails. I have high hopes for this game. Keep it up!
So does the $30 one include a prototype? If not, isn’t it just the same as getting two $15 ones?
exactly HOW will we get our names in the game? is it just going to be a mention in the credits or will it be something better? like a randomly generated little stone statue with a random contributors name on, one on each island? will it scale with the amount pledged?
i was wondering the same thing, cause i could see naming islands and items for the higher end backer, but i dont see how they would add everyones name in unless it was in the credits.
ive been looking in the forums, but it seems i cant find anything related to this either.
Will the prototype be out in August/September and the Beta be out before October, or will both be out at the same time before October? You guys are awesome, I hope you are not getting too stressed.
Beta need to be after, since we will start from the prototype to create a beta ;)
I’m thinking of supporting this game(awesome trailer btw) but I want it to be available on steam, is it going to be? according to what I just searched in the web there shouldn’t be any problem with this request, if that’s the case it would be awesome if you add a reward to the kickstarter for the same $15 pledge with the promise of a steam key when ever it releases.
Man, oh man! This is the greatest thing since sliced Minecraft, in my opinion. If you can make this game about half as fun as it looks, you will be ROLLING in it! Keep up the good work you guys!
I hope you guys will still implement the payment method outside of amazon, since ukash is not only really expensive to use, but also not possible to use for kickstarter in Germany.
Hi !
I bought two account for me and my wife !
Will you update the prototype until the beta is comming or not ?
Thanks a lot !
the prototype is final, when we will make updates it will be for the beta only.
Thanks for your answer. :)
Is there any kind of multiplayer on the prototype ?
(by the way, I love the Captcha)
IMPORTANT FOR TEAM / MENEKIS READ THIS!! :p
I believe you can contact the kickstarter people yourselves and ask them to change the text within you pledge rewards even though people have pledged.
I think this because this is exactly what the Defense Grid 2 campaign just posted an update saying they were doing, getting the kickstarter people to edit the reward descriptions to clarify something.
Thus you could get your rewards about the beta and such worded so people understand, and will stop asking questions about it despite the updates and such.
:) so yay
Are we allowed to livestream the beta/prototype?
I love the look of this game and hope the widget allows for those outside of the US to support your game.
Seems like that’s a massive oversight for Amazon Payments but then I should be used to American companies denying access to non-US citizens. </3
I was wondering is there any chance for a stretch goal for a Xbox 360 or PS3 version? Just like how Minecraft just came out on the 360.
So are we allowed to livestream the beta or the prototype?
Hello Sauropod Team are you still working on your PayPal Payment system? Otherwise I only have 8 Days left to get a Credit Card :)
